Alro Slatina and ArcelorMittal, open war with wind energy producers

Large Industrial Energy Consumers Association, which includes Alro and ArcelorMittal, believes that electricity prices will grow if certain proposals made by the Romanian Wind Energy Association (RWEA) for the amendment of the draft ordinance for supporting green energy are taken into account. During a meeting at the Industry Commission of the Chamber of Deputies between the wind industry representatives, representatives of large consumers and ANRE officials, wind energy producers have shown willingness to redistribute, for a two-year period, 0.25% certificates/MWh of the 2 green certificates allocated under the current support scheme. According to the investors in wind farms, this version would result in a decrease by 12.5% in the costs with certificates borne by consumers in the monthly invoice. The Initiative Group for the establishment of the Large Industrial Energy Consumers Association warns however, “regarding the traps of the proposal made by the Romanian Wind Energy Association (RWEA), for the amendment of the draft ordinance on supporting green energy”, a communique of the large energy consumers reads. The group argues that by invoking an hypothetical decrease in prices for captive consumers, “RWEA wants to keep all privileges for green energy producers, a measure that would increase electricity prices for the population and for all the other consumers and, also, it could endanger the safety of the national energy system”.
