The Competition Council has authorized the takeover of OMV Petrom assets by Mazarine Energy Romania

The Competition Council has authorized the transaction through which Mazarine Energy Romania SRL takes over assets belonging to OMV Petrom SA. The assets to be taken over represent petroleum fields currently owned by OMV Petrom SA.

In 2017, the Competition Council authorized a similar operation between the two companies, through which Mazarine Energy Romania SRL took over from OMV the rights and obligations arising from 19 petroleum concession agreements, together with the assets, rights in rem and employees involved in the exploitation of the petroleum fields.

Mazarine Energy Romania is active in Romania in the field of oil and gas development and production. Mazarine Energy Romania SRL, a subsidiary of Mazarine Energy BV, is controlled by funds managed by companies affiliated to Carlyle Group. The Carlyle Group is a global alternative asset manager.

The competition authority has analyzed this operation and found that it does not raise significant obstacles in the way of effective competition on the Romanian market or a substantial part thereof, especially by creating or consolidating a dominant position.

The decision will be published on the website of the Competition Council after the elimination of confidential information.
