Iberdrola will no longer invest in Romania in wind energy

Iberdrola will no longer invest in Romania in wind energy production, remaining with only 80MW of the 1,200MW announced, the Spanish group following to focus, in this area, on activities in North and South America. “In Romania, Iberdrola will remain with only the 80MW in production. It’s a divestment process which is basically completed”, sources within the company said, quoted by Mediafax. One of the reasons why the Spanish group decided to quit investments in wind energy production is represented by financial difficulties caused by the global crisis, according to quoted sources. “In Europe, the group will focus only on Scotland. At global level, it will invest in North and South America”, the sources said. Iberdrola withdrew three years ago from the project providing the construction of nuclear reactors 3 and 4 at the Cernavoda nuclear power plant.
