ANRE to impose efficiency obligations to distribution operators, after losses in networks reached 16%, five times higher than the EU norms

Energy distribution operators will have to take over part of the energy efficiency obligations of electricity producers with suppliers, Emil Calota, Vice President of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), stated.  “Romania’s energy strategy is too much focused on the production segment, we will have to see if we already have enough energy generation capacity. We should try to transfer from producers part of the obligation to distributors and suppliers. The interface with consumers is the supplier, not he producer. It would be better if suppliers had a more flexible and careful attitude towards consumers”, Calota stated at a press conference.
