GE has provided equipment and service contracts worth a total of almost USD 30mln for Cerna wind project, in Tulcea County. “Romania has a huge potential for wind energy development”, Mario Costariol, director of Energia Verde Ventuno, which developed the Greenfield project, stated. Besides supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines for Bester Generation, as engineering, purchasing and construction contractor for the project, GE has signed a full service agreement for 10 years that will ensure the operation of Cerna wind farm. The project, with a capacity of 17.5MW, is owned by Energia Verde Ventuno, a Romanian company established for this purpose, and will produce enough clean energy to supply approximately 7,000 Romanian households when it starts operating, this year. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Sectoral Operational Programme for Economic Competitiveness, highlighting the strategic importance of clean energy generation in the region.
