Duane Butcher (U.S. Embassy): Romania must know what unconventional gas resources it holds

The presidential adviser for national security, Iulian Fota, has stressed, as a personal point of view, that the challenge in the unconventional gas sector consisted in exploration, with exploitation. Romania must know what unconventional gas resources it holds, but, between investments in this sector and environmental issues, a balance is required, the representative of the U.S. Embassy to Bucharest, Duane Butcher, stated on Monday at a conference on unconventional gas. “The states are interested to increase their energy efficiency, in the context in which the demand is rising. It’s important that each Government knows what unconventional gas resources it has. Romania must know what resources it has. Other countries, such as UK and Poland, are analyzing how they can reduce energy dependence and diversify energy sources, for this purpose. Of course, there has to be an equilibrium between technology, investment management and the compliance with the environmental standards”, the representative of the U.S. Embassy to Bucharest, Duane Butcher, stated.
