Alro Slatina: Employees are working one day a month without payment to pay for green certificates
Alro Slatina employees are working one day a month without payment in order to make savings to pay for green certificates, Marian Nastase, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Slatina-based plant, stated for Agerpres. “These environmental taxes account for 16.5% of the total cost per tonne of aluminum. In conditions of extreme crisis, we must operate with a profitability rate higher than 16.5% to be able to cover them. But we are currently in the situation of not being able to cover them. Last year, Alro reported losses for the first time. We are unable to cut more costs. We are in the unhappy circumstance in which our employees are working one day a month without payment to be able to make savings, to pay for green certificates. This was a discussion we had with the unions. We have a very qualified staff that we don’t want to lose. I find it absurd to lay off some people to pay for green certificates”, Marian Nastase explained.
