Oltenia Energy Complex has modernized the thermal power plants in Oltenia, although it has no market left
Oltenia Energy Complex has completed the modernization of all thermal power plants operated in Oltenia, but it has no market, due to competition of renewable energy, as well as high costs with greenhouse gas emission allowances. „We have completed the modernization, but we have no market left, because, currently, Romania has 15,000MW that can operate, of which 6,000 are from the renewable segment, 6,000 hydro and 1,400 nuclear”, General Manager Laurentiu Ciurel yesterday stated in a conference. He added that Romania has coal for 30-40 years and coal is a strategic component in the energy sector, but companies producing coal-fired energy must be integrated in an energy mix, as it happens all over Europe.
