Ministry of Economy: The project of Units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda nuclear plant is profitable and competitive over a long run

 

The project of units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda is technically feasible, according to the feasibility study performed by consultants Ernst&Young and CANDESCO, according to a communique of the Ministry of Economy. It states that Minister Delegate for Energy Constantin Nita has met with Ernst&Young and CANDESCO representatives, who presented the results of the study. “The financial and economic analysis shows that, over a long term, the project of Units 3 and 4 at CNE Cernavoda is profitable and competitive on the electricity market”, the release of the Ministry of Economy reads. According to it, discounted net cash flows during the analysis period (50 years) corresponding to the entire life of the nuclear units have positive values. During the meeting, the results of the study were presented, which show that the project is feasible, based on CANDU technology. Studies show that the project of units 3 and 4 at CNE Cernavoda is a priority for ensuring Romania’s energy security. The project’s estimated value for building reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda is EUR 6.5bn, according to the new feasibility study recently made by Ersnt&Young.
