How do the new gas taxes contribute to market liberalization?

The energy sector and especially the natural gas sector have received a major blow in recent days. 3 regulatory documents have been published in the Official Gazette, establishing taxes and fees on certain categories of incomes obtained by companies activating in this area. The contribution of these regulations is revealing in terms of the Romanian state’s attitude towards an extremely regulated and tethered market. I have repeatedly shown that existing regulations in the natural gas sector, especially in terms of price, are contrary to the Community law. Moreover, in late November last year, the European Commission started a new infringement procedure against Romania on the existence of what is called the “gas basket”.
