Electricity prices to increase 2% from January 1st 2014 in Romania

Electricity prices will grow from January 1st 2014 by maximum 2%, but this increase is not caused by the tax on special constructions, which will enter into force next year, Minister for Energy Constantin Nita stated on Tuesday. “I also heard that some speak of energy price increases by 20%, but I spoke with ANRE representatives to see where this information comes from. We concluded that the price could increase by 1%, 1.5% or maximum 2% from January 1st”, the minister said, quoted by Agerpres. At the question if this increase is due to the tax on electricity poles, Nita gave a negative answer: “I don’t believe this tax will impact the tariffs”.
